Halagan making this season his last as Woodbridge basketball coach - OCRegister

John Halagan is stepping down as Woodbridge boys basketball head coach at the end of this season, his 28th coaching the Warriors.

Halagan, 61, replaced Bill Shannon as Woodbridge basketball coach in 1992. Halagan and Shannon are the school’s only two boys basketball head coaches since the school opened in 1980.

He planned for this season to be his last before the season started. Woodbridge had an alumni night at its home game Friday and the announcement of his coming departure was made during the festivities.

Halagan coached the Warriors to a CIF-Southern Section championship in the 1996-97 season. Woodbridge’s Chris Burgess was a CIF player of the year that season.

Halagan said he would remain at Woodbridge as a teacher through the 2020-21 school year and will retire from teaching at the end of that school year.
